Intent of the process

A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates may be established to staff similar positions within Elections Canada with various linguistic profile : English or French, bilingual imperative BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC  with various tenures ( various specified periods or indeterminate).

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Successful completion of two years of a post-secondary school program with an acceptable specialization in social science*, statistics, library or archival work**, or a law-related field.

At the manager’s discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience that is comparable to the minimum education standard may serve as an alternative***.

Notes:
* Social science includes economics, political science, sociology, anthropology, history, psychology, geography, criminology and other disciplines associated with social science.
** Library or archival work includes gallery- and museum-type functions.
*** An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience that is comparable to the minimum education standard is defined as follows:
• A secondary school diploma, and
• Significant experience, which refers to the depth and breadth of experience associated with having performed one or more of the following work activities during a period of at least three years:
o the conduct of surveys, studies and projects in the social sciences
o the identification, description and organization of archival, library, museum and gallery materials
o the editing of legislation or the provision of advice on legal problems in specific fields
o the application of practical knowledge of a specialized field such as geography, economics, history, law or psychology to the use and modification or adaptation of related computer systems, utilities or software
o the performance of activities directly related to the systems development life cycle, such as business analysis, requirements definition, application development or structured application testing.

Degree equivalency

Experience

Experience in compiling and analyzing information.
Experience in writing reports.
Experience in at least one of the following areas:
• using systems for the management of data or information
• manipulating databases including adding and updating data
• writing and executing software test scripts
• writing procedures and documenting technical systems

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

Asset Education

A degree from a recognized university with an acceptable specialization**** in geography, political science, law, public administration or information technology.

**** The courses for the specialization do not necessarily have to be part of a degree program in that specialization.

Degree equivalency

Asset Experience*****

Experience in testing software or systems.
Experience in using Microsoft Excel.
Experience in using Microsoft Access.
Experience in preparing presentations or training.

***** These assets may be used as screening criteria.

Asset Knowledge

Knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL).

Asset Abilities

Ability to manipulate data using Microsoft Excel.

Conditions of employment
