Education:
• A diploma from an Electrical Engineering Technology Program or a similar/equivalent program from a recognized institute or RCN E Tech (Journeyman Level) or Interprovincial industrial electrical certification (Red Seal).
Experience:
• Six (6) months of service aboard a ship or marine platform as a MEO or electrical work experience in equivalent industries such as pulp mills, shipyards, stationary power plants, mines or hospitals.
• Experience in the troubleshooting, repair, installation and maintenance of electrical systems.

Information on language requirements
Knowledge:
• Knowledge of electrical standards and codes (e.g., Canadian Electrical Code, Transport Canada TP127E, IEEE, ISM Code etc.)
• Knowledge of relevant Canadian Maritime Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and requirements.
Abilities:
• Ability to plan and manage the daily electrical maintenance, inspection and defect repair of ship electrical systems
• Ability to provide technical support and advice to vessel clients
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical information and data.

Experience:
• Experience working in an engine room at sea
• Experience as an Electrical Officer on a Coast Guard vessel.
• Experience working with Computer Maintenance Management Systems, Control Systems, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC),
• Significant* experience carrying out electrical maintenance in a marine, industrial or institutional environment.
• Experience in researching and compiling information for the preparation of technical reports.
• Experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment, infrastructure and associated control systems and safety precautions and practices associated with electrical work.
• Experience with preventive / predictive maintenance approaches and experience with maintenance management software programs.
• Experience in estimating materials, equipment needs and job costing.
*Significant Experience is defined as 2 years:
• 11 x 28 day patrols (or equivalent) for lay day vessels; OR
• 2 x 6 months for conventional system vessels

Secret security clearance
• Successful candidates must obtain a Canadian Coast Guard Electrical Officer Certificate of Competency and hold a current Continued Proficiency Endorsement.
• Valid Medical (new hires: Transport Canada Marine Medical or Health Canada Periodic 3)
• Valid Passport
• Valid Marine Emergency Duties STCW - Basic Safety.
• Valid Marine Emergency Duties STCW - Survival Craft.
• Valid Marine First Aid (can be Marine Basic First Aid, Marine Advanced First Aid, or Occupational First Aid Level 3).
• Must be willing and able to wear a Respiratory Protection device and meet the standard of the CCG Respiratory Protection Program – RPP
• Willingness to wear and maintain a uniform per Canadian Coast Guard standards, inclusive of CSA approved safety footwear, and maintain job related personal safety equipment.
• Must be willing and able to be deployed
• Must be willing and able to work shiftwork
• Must be willing and able to work aboard a vessel for up to 42 consecutive days and undergo prolonged periods of isolation in harsh marine
• Be in possession of valid class 5 driver’s licence
• Must be willing and able to work at sea or in an industrial/shipyard setting, including but not limited to contractors' facilities, shipyards, dry-docks, on board anchored and vessels at sea.
• Must be willing and able to climb vertical and inclined ladders, crawl through confined spaces, walk on uneven surfaces, work at heights in excess of 2.4 meters and work in machinery spaces.
• Travel by various modes of transportation such as boat, airplane or helicopter.
