Intent of the process

This process will be used to fill 1 position on an indeterminate basis. A pool of qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar EG-04 positions at Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), various linguistic requirements (English essential, French essential, English or French essential, bilingual imperative), various profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC), various security requirements (Reliability or Secret), various conditions of employment, and various locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Graduation with a diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in chemistry, forestry, biological, natural or environmental sciences.

Degree equivalency

Significant* experience analyzing soil, plant and water in an Analytical Laboratory.
Experience conducting routine maintenance protocols for scientific Equipment.
Experience applying quality Assurance and Quality Control practices and procedures.

*Significant is defined as the level of experience which would normally be acquired by doing the duties for a period of more than 2 year.

Information on language requirements

Knowledge of inorganic and organic chemistry laboratory operations and standard methodologies associated with soil, plant and water analysis.
Knowledge of the maintenance and operational procedures for a wide variety of scientific equipment.
Knowledge of laboratory apparatus, instrumentation, and computer operated systems and analytical instrument calibration procedures.
Knowledge of workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) including usage of Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
Knowledge of Laboratory Information Management Systems

Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
Ability to manage own time.
Ability to work as part of a team.

Completion of post-secondary education with specialization in Chemistry.

Degree equivalency

Experience in conducting inorganic and organic analyses utilizing ICP OES, ICP MS, HPLC and GC MS.
Experience in method development for both inorganic and organic analytical chemistry.

Willing and able to work in a laboratory with exposure to dust, chemical vapors and background noises (ie Lab equipment).

Willing and able to perform duties which can involve repetitive task, prolonged periods of standing, and periodic heavy lifting (up to 25 Kg).
