Duties

-Conducts legal research and standard analysis of legal issues. Prepares summaries and recommendations.
-Reviews and organizes sensitive and/or confidential documents, information and data for certain parties in cases/files/projects of medium to mega complexity.
-With general guidance, performs activities of medium complexity pertaining to cases/files/projects.
-Administers routine cases/files/projects that are low in complexity for which precedents exist.
-Assists counsel during legal proceedings in the judicial system.
-Technical advice and guidance for contacts regarding various legal procedures and proceedings.
-Maintains and updates legal and administrative databases, as well as information management systems.

Intent of the process

Please note that the initial appointments will be for one bilingual imperative CCC/CCC position and one bilingual imperative BBB/BBB position.

A pool of qualified persons resulting from this process WILL be created and MAY be used to fill similar positions with linguistic profiles (bilingual imperative BBB/BBB, bilingual imperative CCC/CCC) as well as tenures (indeterminate, deployment, acting, assignment, secondment, specified period) which may vary according to the position being staffed.

Education:
Successful completion of two years of a post-secondary program with acceptable specialization in social science, statistics, library/archival work or a law-related field.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
-Experience in conducting legal research using conventional tools and electronic systems or databases;
-Experience in drafting legal documents for litigation;
-Experience in drafting case summaries for various legal reports.

Asset Qualifications

Education:
Successful completion of two years of post-secondary school training with an acceptable specialization in a law-related field or an acceptable combination of studies, training and experience in the legal field.

Degree equivalency

Knowledge:
-Knowledge of legal information management systems.

Organizational Needs:
-Treasury Board Secretariat employees affected by workforce adjustment may be appointed before persons employed by other government organizations;
-In support of achieving a diverse workforce, consideration may be given to candidates self-identifying as belonging to one of the following Employment Equity groups: Aboriginal peoples, persons with disabilities, members of visible minorities, and women.

Operational Requirements:
-Willingness to work overtime on short notice.
-Willingness to travel occasionally.
