To be considered for Research Affiliate Program (RAP) work opportunities, you must meet the following criteria:

Duties

The main goal of this master’s project is to characterize groundwater flows in a complex multilayer aquifer system by a hydrogeochemical and isotopic approach. Work will be on the Innisfil Creek subwatershed in the Simcoe area of southern Ontario. This hydrogeological study will allow a better understanding of the flow dynamics between the various hydrostratigraphic units. The specific objectives of this study are:
• Define a conceptual model of groundwater flow within and between different components of a complex multi-layered aquifer system;
• Characterize hydrostratigraphic between units using an approach combining hydrogeochemical and isotopic tracers;
• Estimate potential mixtures of groundwater using various datasets from various sources including recharge, their relative age and flow path;
• To provide a portrait of the groundwater quality and describe the effect of their environment;
• Identify potential sources and migration of some natural (eg, methane) or anthropogenic contaminants (eg, nitrates);

• Knowledge and pertinent study/experience in the compilation and interpretation of geochemical data (balance, graphs ...), the development of conceptual hydrogeological model, and the use of statistical methods.
• Advanced knowledge in geostatistics.
• Knowledge of geochemical and hydrogeological modeling.

• Ability to work in a research laboratory and in the field, additional sampling possible for hydrogeochemical and isotopic tracers.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - Reliability Status security clearance - NOTE: Each student hired through the Research Affiliate Program (RAP) must meet the security requirements of the position as a condition of employment, and therefore will be asked by the hiring organization to complete security-relevant documents.

The student must be willing to perform strenuous fieldwork sometimes in remote or isolated areas as part of research and follow all the required health and safety requirements
