The immediate need is to staff 1 indeterminate English essential position in Ottawa, ON. A pool of qualified candidates may be created and may be used to staff similar positions within Environment and Climate Change Canada, with various tenures, language requirements and profiles, and conditions of employment.

EDUCATION
Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, environmental or chemical sciences, or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
EXPERIENCE
Experience in the dissection of birds and small mammals and in the handling and preparation of samples for subsequent chemical/biochemical analyses.
Experience in the use of a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
Experience working in a laboratory governed by quality assurance and quality control standards.
Experience with the MS Suite (Word, Excel, and Access).
Experience in using a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), more specifically, Element from Promium.
Experience working with Class II biological safety cabinets (BSC).

KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of quality assurance / quality control principles and/or procedures used in a CALA accredited laboratories (ISO 17025).
Knowledge of safe working procedures and hazards associated with the use of chemical and biological products, sharp instruments and powered tools.
Knowledge of biology and anatomy of vertebrates.
ABILITIES
Ability to analyze and interpret data and related information.
Ability to maintain accurate and very detailed work records.
Ability to organize time, identify priorities and work with minimal supervision.

-no allergies to eggs, feathers or volatile chemicals such as solvents
-able to handle cold temperature inside walk-in freezers (-40 Celsius)
