AMENDMENT TO CLOSING DATE
Under the supervision of a research scientist in conjunction with a university professor from the university where the student is recruited, the candidate will conduct research in the area of microbiology, molecular biology, and animal physiology, such as determining the responses of animals and their gut microbiota to pathogen infection, antibiotics, and/or alternatives to antibiotics (including those at the molecular or genomic level), and other work as requested.
The lab is located at the Guelph Research and Development Centre – Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (Guelph, On). The incumbent will apply molecular biological and microbiological techniques and be working with a food safety research team. The project aims for controlling Salmonella and reducing the use of antibiotics to improve animal gut health and production.

Master in Science from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in animal science or a relevant field.
Currently enrolled or eligible to enrolled in a full time PhD program from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in Animal Science.
Experience in culturing bacteria and microbial ecology research.
Experience in molecular biological techniques (e.g. but not limited to: PCR, cloning, and mutant characterization).
Experience in animal research and handling farm animals.
