The Group Manager position reports to the Production Manager at Fleet Maintenance Facility Cape Breton (FMF CB) CFB Esquimalt, Victoria BC. This is a Department of National Defence facility. A Group Manager will have a unionized work force of approximately 100 persons, who do trade based (Welders, Machinists, Shipwrights, Electricians etc.) heavy industrial work to maintain and repair Navy Frigates and Submarines. There are seven Group Managers, each responsible for specific trade groups. A Group Manager will have 2 subordinate managers working for them and approximately 6 to 8 supervisors. A Group Manager is responsible for organizational development, HR succession planning and management, budget management, performance management, service delivery schedule adherence, strategic initiatives. Project management is utilized for all work that is executed. There is a high level of interactions with other departments (operations and engineering departments) as well as clients.
The intent of this process is to fill one immediate vacancy. A pool of qualified candidates resulting from this process may be created to staff current and future vacancies, and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures (permanent and temporary), various language requirements and profiles, and various security requirements.

Education:
1a) Graduation with a degree, or diploma from a recognized postsecondary institution with acceptable specialization in a technical or industrial field related to the position*
*diploma (mechanical, electro-mechanical, electrical, electronics), bachelor of technology (electrical, mechanical, electronics), bachelor of engineering, business management, operations management, technical or industrial manufacturing management
OR
1b) Holds one or more trade certifications*:
*examples of, but not limited to: Marine Electrician, Boilermaker, Marine Mechanic, Shipwright, Pipefitter, Sheet Metal Worker, Painter, Millwright, Machinist, Welder
Experience:
2) Minimum of 8 years progressive management experience in metal fabrication, maintenance, manufacturing, operations, ship repair, or industrial management
