Persons with disabilities preventing them from applying on-line are asked to contact 1-800-645-5605.
Candidates will be asked, as per the application process, to answer screening questions for each essential and asset criteria (education and experience). Candidates will have to provide specific examples, for each screening question demonstrating how they have acquired the education and experience criteria. Please note that it is not sufficient to only state that the qualification is met or to provide a listing of current or past responsibilities. Resumes will be used as a secondary source to validate your answers to the screening questions. Failure to clearly demonstrate in your answers how you meet the screening criteria (education and experience) may result in the rejection of your application.
There may be future selection processes open to fill identical positions in other service centers in Baie-Comeau and Quebec. You need to apply in each of those selection processes if interested in those positions. You will be assessed only one time and results will be valid for 180 days. You may not retake the test until the 180 day waiting period has elapsed.
The Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) is a federal department responsible to ensure the integrity and marketability of grain for the domestic and international grain trade, from producer to global customer.
The Industry Services Division of the CGC is introduced a Grain Inspector Development Program (GIDP) in early 2014. The GIDP is an, up to, 4 year development program to qualify as a full working level Grain Inspector (PI-CGC-03). The development program is based on a modular curriculum of both classroom training and working practicum.
A Grain Inspector trainee will develop the ability to perform the preliminary inspection and analysis of grain samples; grading of grain samples; draw representative grain samples; determine the protein content on samples of wheat; maintain records of inspection data and inspect equipment; delivering grain; monitor the correct functioning of the grain moving systems, maintain records and compile reports; assist with the conduct of official audits; and perform other related duties as assigned.
Grain Inspector trainees will be expected to develop the required technical / behavioural competencies, within the four (4) year program as they progress from Trainee (PI-CGC-01) to Intermediate (PI-CGC-02) to full working level Grain Inspector (PI-CGC-03). An individual’s development will be constantly monitored against the program’s competency standards and expectations which, once demonstrated, a Trainee will be promoted to the next level. A Trainee’s development of the GIDP competencies will be based on an individual’s effort and capacity to learn as measured and reflected throughout the program so that progress through to the full working level may be accomplished within the four (4) year maximum time frame. As such, a Trainee will be on probation for the duration of the development program and may be released at any time for failure to demonstrate the technical / behavioural competencies required and not meeting the goals and expectations of the program.
Successful completion of all GIDP components will be a condition of employment for all participants upon acceptance of a Grain Inspector trainee position.
Grain Inspector Trainees will work in a heavy industrial environment with exposure to moving railcars, automated equipment, dust, noise, bird excrement, heights and rodents. Employees must use personal protective equipment (supplied) as required for safety purposes. Any known allergies must be controlled through the use of masks and/or medication and must not impinge on ability to perform job. There are several work sites where travel between them will be required on short notice.
There are currently 2, PI-CGC-01 vacancies to be filled.
A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used for similar indeterminate training positions in Quebec.
A candidate may only write the assessments once as their test results will be valid for a period of 180 days and will be retained for similar processes at different locations. Assessments may be administered at different locations.
If invited, candidates will be required to attend, AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE, a technical / behavioural competency assessment to qualify for entrance into the development program (excluding employees of the Federal Public Service).
The starting date of employment is expected to be January 2018, according to the reception capacity of the program. The successful candidate must reside or relocate to the location of the position upon appointment.
