Intent of the process

The immediate intent of this poster is to fill one (1), bilingual imperative CBC/CBC position on an indeterminate basis.

Applicants should be aware that a pool of qualified candidates (fully assessed or partially assessed) may be established and may be used to staff similar positions at this group and level with various language requirements listed in the Language Requirements section. In addition, this process may be used for various tenures (acting appointments, assignment, deployment, indeterminate, specified period, secondment), security requirements and conditions of employment within Health Canada in the National Capital Region. EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, engineering or some other science relevant to the position.

Note:
1. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
• Significant* experience applying principles of radiation protection and risk assessment to support the management of risks from X-ray emitting devices and equipment, such as medical, dental, industrial and security devices.

• Experience planning and managing financial and capital resources.

• Experience leading a scientific or technical project to support regulatory, policy or research initiatives.

• Experience preparing and providing scientific, technical and regulatory advice, pertaining to radiation protection, to one or more of the following: senior management**, industry, stakeholders, governments or the public.

*Significant is defined as experience that was a core part of the candidate’s employment and that would normally be acquired over a minimum of 2 years within the last 5 years.
**Senior management is defined as Director level or above.

• Knowledge of physics or engineering theories, and principles as applied to the design, use, and performance of X-ray emitting devices and x-ray image formation.
• Knowledge of radiation protection principles
• Knowledge of key national and international standards, and organizations involved in the assessment and management of risks from X-ray emitting devices.
• Knowledge of the Radiation Emitting Devices Act and the Food and Drugs Act governing the safety of radiation emitting devices.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

ASSET EDUCATION:
• Masters or Doctorate degree from a recognized university in science or applied science with specialization in physics, engineering, or other relevant science related discipline.

Degree equivalency

ASSET EXPERIENCE:
• Experience in authorship of published or unpublished reports, papers, or other scientific communication.
• Experience in representing government or organisations in international fora (eg, International Electrotechnical Commission, International Organization for Standardization).

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Willingness and ability to travel nationally and internationally on occasion.
