The Department of National Defence (DND) is one of the largest federal government employers. DNDs role is to provide services and support to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in their operations and missions at home and abroad. As a civilian employee, you will be an important part of the Defence Team.
With approximately ten employees reporting to the position, the Operations Supervisor leads within the Real Property Operations Detachment the shop level resources. The unit is responsible for all building and public works construction, maintenance, the operations of utility plants and systems typical of a CAF Wing, including runways, air traffic control, hangars, and support infrastructures.
8 Wing Trenton is located in the Quinte West region of Ontario and is situated on the western end of the Bay of Quinte on Lake Ontario. Trenton is home to the National Air Force Museum of Canada and the surrounding area offers conservation areas, campsites, picnic grounds and marinas. Located south of Trenton is Prince Edward County which boasts many vineyards, camping, beaches and boating.
There is an immediate need to staff one (1) indeterminate position in Trenton, Ontario. A pool of qualified candidates resulting from this process may be created to staff current and future vacancies, and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures (permanent and temporary), various language requirements and profiles, and various security requirements.

Occupational Certification:
Possession of a Red Seal Journeymen Certificate and hold a valid Statement of Membership issued by the Ontario College of Trades.
OR
Certificate of qualification in a Building or Engineering Trade or 1st or 2nd Class Operating Engineer.
OR
Certification or Unrestricted Class 1 Water or Class 1 Wastewater Certification.
Experience:
EX1: Recent* and significant ** managerial*** and supervisory experience.
EX2: Significant** experience with project development and management.
EX3: Experience with financial management, including but not limited to financial planning, forecasting, and operating budgets.
EX4: Recent experience related to Facility Maintenance programs/systems such as, but not limited to Maintenance Connection.
EX5: Experience managing multi-discipline construction projects.
EX6: Experience with standards and codes governing facility operations and maintenance.
EX7: Experience with committees such as Health and Safety and labour management.
*Recent is defined as within the last 3 years.
**Significant is defined as the depth and breadth acquired with having done the duties for two (2) consecutive years.
***Managerial experience is defined as, but not limited to, human resources responsibilities such as monitoring attendance, assessing performance, counselling, allocating workload, etc.

Education:
Diploma or Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a discipline related to building or infrastructure construction or maintenance.
Occupational Certification:
Posession of Engineering Technologist Certificate.
Professional association designation or certificate related to Plant of Facility Maintenance such as sponsored by the Plant Engineering and Maintenance Association of Canada or the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMI’s Building System Maintenance Certificate).
Experience:
Experience using web-based HR Resources such as Oracle and Phoenix
Experience working with Department of National Defence Facility Operations and Maintenance.
Operational Requirements:
OR1: Willingness and ability to work overtime, when required.
OR2: May be required to be placed on a standby list.
OR3: Willingness and ability to travel.
OR4: Willing and able to wear and utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
OR5: Willing and able to work from ladders, catwalks, scaffolding, roofs and motorized man-lifts, reaching, stretching, climbing and bending.
OR6: Willing and able to crouch, crawl, stoop and bend while inspecting confined spaces, excavation sites, vessels, etc.
OR7: Willing and able to work in hot and cold environments for extended periods of time.

Other conditions of employment:
Possession of a valid Class “G” Driver’s License for the Province of Ontario or provincial or territorial equivalent.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DND 404 Driver’s Licence.
Willing and able to wear and utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Willing and able to work from ladders, catwalks, scaffolding, roofs and motorized man-lifts, reaching, stretching, climbing and bending.
Willing and able to crouch, crawl, stoop and bend while inspecting confined spaces, excavation sites, vessels, etc.
