Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff a EN-ENG-02 position on a indeterminate basis with language requirements of English Essential and a reliability security clearance.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions EN-ENG-02 at Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), various linguistic requirements (English Essential, and Bilingual) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.)), various security requirements,various conditions of employment and for various locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical, chemical or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

Experience in designing, planning and conducting applied research in thermochemical conversion of biomass
Experience in working in pilot plant or industrial equipment processing biomass
Experience in designing, setting up and operating equipment for monitoring process conditions and products from thermochemical conversion of biomass
Experience in data analysis and technical report writing including the open literature
Experience in searching and reviewing scientific and technical literature.
Experience in compiling, consolidating and summarizing technical information from multiple sources.
Experience in conducting technology assessments related to production of renewable fuels (solid or liquid or gaseous)

Knowledge of the fundamentals of thermochemical conversion processes: thermodynamics, mass & heat transfer
Knowledge of the health and safety procedures of the work place

Ability to initiate, plan and carry out experiments in order to produce scientifically valid data
Ability to accurately verify, analyse and interpret experimental results and record findings in a technical report
Ability to prepare specifications for specialized research apparatus or hardware as may be required for a range of biomass feedstocks
Ability to communicate effectively verbally
Ability to communicate effectively in writing

Experience in planning and conducting applied research using a wide range of biomass fuels (agricultural or forestry biomass and waste derived fuels)
Experience in working in a research consortium with multiple stakeholders
Experience in providing technical supervision to research equipment operators
Experience in providing technical information to broad range of government and industrial stakeholders
Experience in developing test methods for characterisation or measurements for quantification of biomass fuels or their by-products from thermochemical conversion

Knowledge of thermochemical conversion technologies as it relates to industrial scale biofuels production
Knowledge of biomass feedstocks characteristics
Knowledge of biomass pre-treatment processes
Knowledge of energy generation from biomass or waste for remote community applications.
Knowledge of processes converting syngas to diesel fuels
