Intent of the process

The immediate need is for a full time permanent position. A qualified group of candidates may be identified and may be used to staff future vacancies (including similar positions, on a temporary or permanent basis, on a casual basis, at full or part time hours) within the area of selection.

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Successful completion of two years of an acceptable post-secondary educational program in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed, OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

1. *Recent and **significant experience implementing and supporting current Windows Operating software, end user software and hardware in a networked environment.
2. *Recent and **significant experience providing technical support and guidance to users.
3. *Recent and **significant experience implementing and supporting workstations, laptops and peripherals in a networked environment.

* RECENT is defined as experience obtained within the last two (2) years.

** SIGNIFICANT EXPERIENCE refers to the breadth and depth of experience in the IM/IT field that would normally be acquired over a period of twelve (12) months or more.

Knowledge of Microsoft Windows 7 or Windows 10 desktop operating systems.
Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory for tasks like imaging and configuring workstations, deploying software applications and supporting end-users and workstations.
Knowledge of Windows Active Directory as it pertains to creating and maintaining user accounts and user access to file system resources.
Knowledge of System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM).
Knowledge of equipment and configurations applicable to LAN/WAN based systems.
Knowledge of IT security.

Ability to plan and organize workload (e.g. set priorities, meet deadlines).

Preference may be given to RCMP employees impacted/affected by work force adjustment.

Conditions of employment

Top Secret security clearance

Possession of a valid BC Driver's license.
Willingness to travel throughout service area (i.e. BC).
Willingness to work extended hours, or adjust work schedule, with little or no notice, to meet operational requirements.
Mobility to the extent of crawling under furniture to set up and assemble computer equipment.
Physical ability for lifting of heavy or awkward items like printers or computers, up to 23kg.

The successful applicant will have to obtain, as a minimum, an RCMP Reliability Status. In some cases/positions, a Top Secret Security Clearance may also be required. The process also requires a Security/Reliability Interview, a field investigation in matters of Criminal Activities, credit/finances, education, employment, references, etc.

You MUST clearly demonstrate in writing how you meet the Essential Education, and Experience requirements. Provide examples and describe the work/duties you have performed. Failure to do so may result in your application not being considered further during the screening process.

If you do not fully complete the screening questions as instructed, you may be screened out. It is not acceptable to put “see resume” in the space provided to answer the questions.

Any or all of the asset qualifications, operational requirements, and organizational needs may be used for the screening of applications. If you meet these criteria, please clearly demonstrate how you meet them in writing. Provide examples and describe the work/duties you have performed. Depending on the requirements of the position(s) being staffed from this process, for current or future vacancies, any or all of the asset qualifications and organizational needs may be applied at the time of staffing. Candidates may be contacted and assessed against these criteria at any time during this process.

Interested persons must meet the essential qualifications to be appointed to the position, in a manner determined by the Selection Board. A person may be appointed to the position even though he/she does not meet any or all of the asset qualifications or organizational needs. However, meeting these criteria is desirable and may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed.

Once established, the qualified pool will be valid for a period of 12 months and may be extended.

Practical and/or standardized tests may be administered for screening and/or assessment purposes.

Random selection may be used to identify which applicants will be assessed or appointed in this appointment process.
