You will have to describe five (5) sculptures that you have produced and explain why and how they were created.

Duties

Under the direction of the Dominion Sculptor, the Assistant Sculptor provides creative sculpting and advisory services to produce or to conserve interior and exterior sculpture having heritage value (i.e. historic and/or artistic merit) for example, as found within the Parliamentary Precinct or other federal sites throughout Canada and abroad for clients and for all Canadians.

Intent of the process

A pool of partially qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions within the Department of Public Services and Procurement Canada in the National Capital Region with various tenures such as temporary or permanent. The pool can be used to staff positions with various linguistic requirement and various security requirements. The position is located in Gatineau, but the pool can also be used for positions located in Ottawa.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:

Successful completion of a post-secondary program in sculpture, conservation of architectural sculpture and/or related apprenticeship program.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCES:

Experience in conservation of architectural sculpture.

Experience in presenting work and proposals to Clients.

Experience in the fabrication of designs and models (for sculptures) and sculptures of various materials.

The following will be applied / assessed at a later date (essential for the job)

English or French

Information on language requirements

KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of the theories and principles of conservation.

Knowledge of sculptural materials and their working properties.

Knowledge of the various hand tools used for the fabrication of sculpture.

ABILITIES:

Ability to produce a sculpture that meets specific historical and artistic requirements.

Ability to assess the condition of historic sculpture and decorative arts and make recommendations.

Ability to communicate effectively orally.

Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of styles of architectural sculpture and decorative arts such as Gothic or Romanesque.

Knowledge of the specialized machinery used for cutting and shaping sculpture materials.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Willingness to travel to locations throughout Canada and occasionally abroad.

Willingness to work overtime.

Willingness and ability to work in and around construction sites, undergo construction safety training certification and wear personal protective equipment
