Education
Successful completion of secondary school or a satisfactory score on the PSC test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma (GIT 320); or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience
Occupational Certification
Possess a valid Certificate of Qualification as a Marine Service Technician (formerly known as Marine Repair Technician) or
A Protective Coating Technician certification issued by NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers) or
Possess a red seal certification as a painter or decorator or
10 years’ experience preparing and applying coating on vessels or marine structures
Experience
Significant* Experience in surface preparation and paint application on vessels or other industrial or marine structures
Experience in the use of conventional and airless paint application equipment, rollers and brushes, to achieve specific wet and dry film thicknesses of various coatings.
*Significant means approximately 5 years after receiving certification
Occupational Certification
Industry recognized certification in a related field.
Experience
Experience conducting routine maintenance or repairs or overhaul on hulls or mechanical or electrical systems.
Operational Requirements
Willing and able to travel domestically using various means of transportation such as ships, planes, and helicopters, sometimes on short notice.
Willing and able to conduct site visits to vessels, involving walking over rough terrain and/or climbing stairs, ladders, scaffolding, or other structures.
Willing and able to work overtime as required.
