Intent of the process

The Salmon Enhancement Program is conducting a hiring process seeking candidates for Enhancement Technician (GT-03), Fish Culturist (GT-02) and Assistant Fish Culturist (GL-MAN-05) positions. These staff members are involved in every aspect of operating a hatchery you can imagine, and likely many you can’t. If you are an energetic and adventurous individual who enjoys working as part of a team in an outdoor environment, join our family of dedicated employees at one of 23 hatchery and spawning channel facilities who culture and release millions of juvenile salmon every year to supplement wild stocks and sustain British Columbia fisheries.

You must ensure that your application includes an up-to-date resume and must complete all of the screening questions clearly demonstrating with concrete information and examples how you meet the essential education and experience criteria. It is insufficient to simply state that you do have the essential education and experience criteria; the Selection Board requires illustrative information and examples in the screening question responses. Failure to complete the screening questions will result in your elimination from the selection process. Other criteria (Knowledge, Abilities, Personal Suitability) for screened-in candidates will be assessed later using other tools; these could include a written examination and an oral interview. Although the asset qualifications are not mandatory, they may be an important factor that will be considered for specific positions being staffed. Therefore, if you do have the asset experience, it is to your advantage to demonstrate this in your application.

By applying on this process, you will be eligible for all three classifications listed.

This process is anticipatory. A pool of qualified candidates will be created as a result of this selection process to staff similar positions in the DFO Pacific region.

The previous pools of qualified candidates that remain valid are listed below; any older pools at these levels will be closed once this process is complete. If you are qualified in an older pool that is not on this list, please reapply to be considered for employment at these levels.

GT-03: 2013-DFO-EA-BCI-940188
GT-02, GT-03: 15-DFO-PAC-EA-121125
GL-MAN-05: 15-DFO-PAC-EA-121216

If you have applied for these positions in the past and are currently in one of the pools listed above, but did not qualify for all three of these classifications, you MUST reapply to be considered for any classifications you wish to be considered for. For example, if you applied in the GT-02, GT-03:15-DFO-PAC-EA-121125 process and qualified as a GT-02 only, you MUST reapply in this process to be considered for GT-03.
