Intent of the process

Anticipatory Staffing - To establish a pool of qualified candidates to fill various existing and future positions at land-based and island lightstations within CCG, Atlantic Region on a Term, Acting or Indeterminate basis.

This pool of qualified candidates may be used to staff similar and/or lower level positions throughout the CCG Atlantic Region.

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. Some essential and other qualifications will be assessed through your application. It is your responsibility to provide appropriate examples that illustrate how you meet each qualification. Failing to do so could result in your application being rejected.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:

Completion of secondary school or employer approved alternative

*Acceptable combination of education, training and experience will be a minimum of 3 years work experience

Degree equivalency

Recent experience as a Lightkeeper

Experience in operating and maintaining mechanical and electrical equipment such as small engines, hand power tools, generators, etc.

Experience in performing routine maintenance tasks on buildings and grounds such as painting, landscaping, minor carpentry, etc.

*Recent means having worked a minimum 28days on duty as a Lightkeeper within the last 5 years.

English essential

Information on language requirements

Knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of a Lightkeeper.

Knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment maintenance as it pertains to lightstation operations

Knowledge of routine maintenance on buildings and grounds as it pertains to lightstations operations

Ability to communicate orally and in writing

Effective Interpersonal Relationships

Dependability

The following may be applied / assessed at a later date (may be needed for the job)

Experience operating a boat and outboard motors

Experience in dealing with the general public

Experience operating a computer.

Possession of Small Vessel Operators Proficiency Certificate or higher certification

Willingness and ability to travel using various modes of transportation, including helicopters and small boats.
