Intent of the process

Anticipatory Staffing: A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff similar term and/or permanent positions.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:
Possession of a secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

Recent* experience operating heavy equipment, including front end loaders and dump trucks.
Recent* experience operating heavy equipment in snow and ice control operations.
Recent* experience with earth moving procedures and grass cutting operations.
Recent* experience in the operation of road plows with sanders.

In addition to the qualifications listed above, the following is required for Halifax positions:
Recent* experience operating a tractor trailer.

In addition to the qualifications listed above, the following is required for supervisory positions in both locations:
Recent* experience supervising the operation of heavy equipment.

*Recent is defined as having 2 years experience within the last three years.

Possession of a valid unrestricted Nova Scotia Class 1 driver’s license with air brake endorsement, or
provincial or territorial equivalent. (Note: Restriction 1, glasses is not applicable).

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Experience in the operation of a tractor trailer.
Experience in the operation of buses.

Knowledge of Province of Nova Scotia and Department of National Defence driving rules and regulations.
Knowledge of safe driving practices and procedures.

Ability to operate heavy equipment such as front end loaders and dump trucks.
Ability to perform operator inspection and maintenance on heavy equipment, such as front end loaders and dump trucks.

Ability to operate a tractor trailer

In addition to the qualifications listed above, the following is required for supervisory positions in both locations:
Ability to supervise the operation and inspection of heavy equipment, such as front end loaders and dump trucks.

Possession of WHMIS certification.
Possession of valid first aid certificate.
Possession of valid CPR certificate.

Ability to operate a tractor trailer
Ability to operate a commuter bus (44 passengers) and highway cruiser (54 passengers)

Must be willing and able to work shifts.
Must be willing and able to work in an environment with exposure to load noise, fumes and dust.
Must be willing and able to work overtime and call back.
Must be willing to work safely in accordance with provincial and federal guidelines.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain a Departmental driver’s permit (DND404).
Must possess a current (within one month) drivers' abstract.
Must be willing to work safely in accordance with provincial and federal guidelines.

Other information

Candidates who applied to process 17-DND-EA-GRNWD-415961, which closed Monday, 29 May 2017 need to submit application to be included in this process.

Assessments will be conducted in Halifax, NS or Greenwood, NS. Candidates will be
responsible for any and all travel costs associated with and throughout this process.

Candidates will be required to provide a current and up-to-date driver’s abstract
available from the Ministry of Transportation to show evidence of a satisfactory and
safe driving record for the last three years. You will be notified when you are required
to provide this document.

Reference checks may be sought.

An interview may be administered.

A test may be administered.
