Detachment Services Assistant provides administrative and operational support services for police officers and other employees at a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) detachment. This position also provides front counter and telephone assistance, services and information to the general public.

Intent of the process

Please note this process will only be used to staff positions in Edson, Alberta. Applicants are encouraged to apply only if they are willing and able to work in or relocate to Edson, Alberta.

The intent of this process is to establish a pool of qualified candidates inclusive of Public Service (PS) employees and Civilian Members (CM).

Should a CM be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to another category for the member. Notification regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.

• Experience in the provision of clerical support services, including three of the following: data entry, preparing correspondence, ordering office supplies, filing, or processing mail.

• Experience using a personal computer, and word processing and spreadsheet software.

• Experience providing service to internal or external clients / general public, via telephone or in person.

• Ability to communicate effectively in writing (will be assessed throughout application).

• Experience providing administrative support services in a law enforcement, judicial or quasi-judicial environment.

• Experience providing financial support services. (Services may include, but are not limited to, verifying and correcting financial claims, controlling and monitoring petty cash, preparing financial status reports, etc.)

• Experience maintaining a law enforcement database such as: Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC), Police Information Retrieval Systems (PIRS), Police Reporting and Occurrence System (PROS), Automated Criminal Intelligence Information System (ACIIS), National Criminal Data Bank (NCDB).

• Experience in providing records management services such as indexing, cross-referencing, filing,

• Experience transcribing from audio cassettes or digital media.

• Knowledge of local area.

• Ability to work with minimal supervision.

• Willingness and ability to work in a busy police environment, including exposure to unsettling and /or graphic material.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - Successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain a RCMP Security Clearance throughout their employment. This requires a Security/Reliability Interview, and a field investigation in matters of Criminal Activities, credit/finances, education, employment, reference, etc.

• An online examination will be administered = Objective Exercise for Personnel in Administrative Functions (OEPAF)
The OEPAF is a competency evaluation tool used in staffing processes for administrative support positions. This skills test contains multiple choice questions. The scenarios are related to setting priorities, data entry, administrative document verification, and communication skills. This test will be used to evaluate the following merit criteria:

» Detail-oriented
» Being organised
» Action-oriented
The retest period for the OEPAF is 180 days. If you submit an application before the retest period has elapsed, your application will not be considered.
