Duties

Produce and develop custom geomatics products (maps and plans). Using CAD and GIS packages, extract, compile, analyze, verify, and assemble digital data in map form. Participate in and help with the development, organization and execution of field campaigns related to field investigations, and/or legal surveys. Provide advice and generate reports by researching records, archives and databases. Analyze and respond to requests for information from the general public, First Nations, other government departments and land administrators, etc. Observe health and safety guidelines and procedures in work activities and the work site. Carry out administrative activities such as maintaining supply inventories, field equipment and fleet vehicles.

Intent of the process

A pool of (fully or partially) qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at the EG-04 group and level within Natural Resources Canada in EDMONTON and WHITEHORSE ONLY with various tenures (determinate period or permanent), various language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential or Bilingual), various methods for staffing a bilingual position (imperative and/or non-imperative) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.), various security requirements (Reliability status or Secret clearance), and with various conditions of employment.

►Successful completion of a program (minimum one year) from a recognized post-secondary institution in geomatics or land surveying or some other program relevant to the position.

►Valid Diploma in a 2 year (or more) technology program in geomatics or land surveying.

Degree equivalency

►A certified Engineering Technologist (CET) or Professional Technologist (PTech) designation or the equivalent recognition as a technician in land surveying.

►Experience in providing technical support in land surveying on Canada Lands within the Yukon Territory.
►Experience working with software related to land surveying (e.g. COGO, CAD, GIS etc.).
►Experience in providing technical support in land surveying within a provincial survey system.
►Experience in providing technical support in land surveying on Canada Lands (e.g., Indian reserves, National Parks, etc).

►Knowledge of the survey system on Canada Lands
►Knowledge of GIS software, such as ArcGIS, AutoCAD, computation packages such as COGO, in order to create and maintain digital cadastral data sets and to produce GIS/Mapping Products.

►Ability to integrate geospatial data.
►Ability to provide advice on boundary issues related to the extent of property (land) rights.

A written examination may be administered.

Candidates must meet the essential qualifications to be appointed to a position.
