Provides building science expertise and technical advice for complex issues related to housing programs and energy simulation software. Planning, organizing and developing testing requirements for existing simulation software and processes. Performs research and analysis, develops and validates procedures and processes, and creates and edits technical documentation in support of development and maintenance of the EnerGuide Rating System infrastructure for low-rise housing. Requires knowledge of building science, Canadian low-rise residential construction/renovation practices, and residential mechanical systems in order to respond to technical questions and provide advice to management on development of housing programs.
A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), various linguistic requirements English Essential, English or French Essential, and Bilingual (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc),various security requirements (reliability, secret), various conditions of employment and for various locations.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in one of the following disciplines: science; building science; architecture; engineering; or another specialty relevant to the duties of the position; or,
An acceptable combination* of education, experience or training would also be accepted.
*Acceptable combination refers to a graduation from a recognized secondary or post-secondary institution and at least five (5) years federal housing programs or other provincial/territorial/municipal programs related to federal housing programs (e.g. uses/refers to federal codes/standards as part of the program) experience.
Minimum five (5) years experience within the last fifteen (15) years with on-site Canadian low-rise residential building construction, renovation, home inspection or energy efficiency evaluations.
Minimum three (3) years experience within the last fifteen (15) years in the application of energy efficiency and building science principles in the housing sector.
Minimum three (3) years experience within the last fifteen (15) years with federal housing programs or other provincial/territorial/municipal programs related to federal housing programs (e.g. uses/refers to federal codes/standards as part of the program).
Minimum three (3) years experience within the last fifteen (15) years in reviewing and assessing technical documents to ensure technical compliance with program requirements, and providing technical advice to various audiences based on research and analysis of technical material.
Minimum three (3) years experience within the last fifteen (15) years using HOT2000 modelling software.
Minimum two (2) years experience within the last fifteen (15) years with energy efficient residential HVAC equipment or building envelope.
Minimum one (1) year experience developing, reviewing, validating and/or testing technical procedures and documentation aimed at various audiences.
Minimum one (1) year experience delivering courses or providing training regarding building science.
Minimum one (1) year experience researching, developing and reviewing energy models.
Experience in project management.

Knowledge of Office of Energy Efficiency (OEE) Housing Division programs and technical standards.
