Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to establish a pool of partially qualified candidates to staff identical or similar positions at Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), various bilingual imperative language profile(s) imperative, non imperative (Anglais, francais, BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.)), various security requirements (Reliability, Secret level, etc), various conditions of employment and for various locations.

Candidates will need to meet all the essential merit criteria prior to being appointed to a position.Candidates may be referred from this inventory for various positions based on the needs of the organization, asset qualifications, or random selection. The inventory will be updated every 60 days. If your application is part of the inventory, you will receive a system generated email notice in your applicant account 10 days before that period. The notice will ask you whether your application should continue to remain active for an additional 60 days. Failure to respond to the email will result in the inactivation of your application. You will need to reactivate your application to be considered for staffing opportunities.

The inclusion of your application into the inventory will depend on the responses provided to the questionnaire. The information you provide in the questionnaire must be true. Your résumé will be verified by Natural Resources Canada staff during the referral of your application to a hiring manager. You must ensure that all of the experience criteria you identify in the questionnaire are included in your résumé. If your résumé is selected for a process and your experience is not clearly demonstrated, your application may be rejected. You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. Graduation with a degree (bachelor’s) from a recognized post-secondary institution in a natural science with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position, such as biology or forestry.

Degree equivalency

This process aims to establish an inventory of Level BI-02 Biologists.

• Experience in the management and analysis of forest or biological data using statistical software
• Significant* work experience in the planning and execution of forest or biology research projects

*Significant refers to 2 years of experience. Experience obtained during a masters or doctorate degree in a discipline relevant to the position may be recognized as experience.

Basic knowledge in North American hardwood and softwood forest ecology
Knowledge of standard statistical models used in forestry (mixed models, logistic regression, etc.) and SAS or R software
Basic knowledge in soil ecology
Basic knowledge in forest productivity
Basic knowledge in the identification and ecology of forest insects
Knowledge of standard methods in dendrochronology, including cross-dating, ring analysis and data validation
