Duties

Summary of Duties:

Under the authority of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Building Operator performs diverse manual task concerning the efficient operation and maintenance of building systems and components. Some of the duties of this position are to;
• Maintain and repair heating, cooling, humidification, and ventilation systems, components, and accessories.
• Maintain and repair computerized firearms ranges, food services equipment, swimming pool equipment, woodworking equipment, steam plant equipment, and building controls, components and accessories.
• Conduct various building inspections, to ensure that building equipment and systems are functioning optimally.
• Complete or generate work orders as requested, ensuring compliance with all regulatory codes, acts, and regulations.
• Source information from manufacturers, suppliers, and technical manuals for the repair and operation of specific equipment.
• Coordinate with clients and stakeholders on mechanical operations and maintenance.
• Assist engineering and program delivery teams to provide support and needed operational information.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Certificate or journeyperson status in one or more of the following areas: Industrial Mechanic (Millwright), 5th Class Power Engineer, Refrigeration Engineer or Refrigeration Mechanic, or an acceptable combination of education/training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience in the inspection and maintenance of various building components

Experience in the maintenance and repair of HVAC systems, air compressors, air dryers, and ancillary equipment

Experience working in a large and complex institutional/industrial setting

Experience in the use of Microsoft office suite, such as Word and Excel

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Experience with minor carpentry, plumbing and electrical repairs

Willing and able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in accordance with safety rules

Willing and able to travel via commercial or government transportation services when required

Willing and able to be available on standby

Willing and able to work shift work and overtime on short notice

Willing and able to work outside in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold

Willing and able to work in uncomfortable positions and spaces

Willing and able to stand for prolonged periods of time

Willing and able to successfully complete the following required training:
First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training, Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) training, Fall Arrest training, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) training, Confined Space Entry training, and Aerial Work Platform training.
