Operates building environmental systems/equipment within office and special purpose facilities ( Laboratories, Greenhouses, Husbandry Buildings)
Performs preventive maintenance such as inspecting, replacing components on schedule, testing and adjusting a variety of complex equipment and systems. Responds to breakdowns, diagnoses and repairs, adjusts and calibrates a variety of complex mechanical equipment and systems.
Overhauls (dismantles completely) and replaces defective parts, and cleans, reassembles, tests and adjusts a variety of complex mechanical equipment and systems.
Removes and/or installs major pieces of equipment.
Prepares reports; accesses and updates computerized preventive maintenance schedules and records; orders parts and materials and estimates costs.
Agriculture Agri-Food Canada maintains the 427 Hectares of property and 70 research buildings, of which operations and maintenance services are carried out by in house Building System Technicians. These entities make up the National Historic site of the Central Experimental Farm, the farm in the middle of the city. This property is home to the Dominion Arboretum, Ornamental Gardens, Ottawa Research and Development Centre as well as the Canadian Agriculture and Food Museum.
The site is visited by millions of tourists each year and is used as a learning location for many local students.
As an active research centre it also draws the interest of scientists and students from all over the world for learning and collaborations.
Immediate need: To staff two (2) positions on a full time permanent basis for the location indicated for this process.
Anticipatory: A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions on a permanent full-time or part-time basis or on a temporary full-time or part-time basis for the location indicated for this process.
Note: In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, and there is a temporary need, he/she may be considered for acting or assignment/secondment opportunities.

Secondary school Diploma AND:
- graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution in Building Systems Technology from a recognized College or technical Institute, OR
- an acceptable combination of training and experience relative to Building Systems Technology.
Experience in operations and maintenance of large commercial building central monitoring and control systems, electrical, mechanical and electro-mechanical systems, system components and equipment.
Experience performing scheduled preventative maintenance and diagnostic tests on commercial electrical, mechanical and electro-mechanical building systems and equipment.
Experience in providing in-house maintenance and emergency repairs to commercial building systems and/or equipment.
Gas Fitter (Technician) Certification in the Province of Ontario or Quebec- level 2 or higher
Power (Operating) Engineer Certification in the Province of Ontario or Quebec at the 4th Class level or higher
