Intent of the process

There is an immediate need to staff GL ELE 03 positions in Petawawa and Borden. A pool of qualified candidates may be established from this process to staff similar positions across the Ontario region (excluding NCR) on term, indeterminate, casual or acting basis in the future, including staffing lower level positions at GL ELE 02 level.

Information on language requirements

Stream 1: Labourer
EX1 - Experience providing general labour services, performing three or more of the following*:
• Operates, conducts inspections and completes routine maintenance and repair on powered equipment, including but not limited to tractors, trackless and mowers;
• Removes snow and ice from buildings, sidewalks and hydrants using motorized vehicles, equipment and hand tools;
• Performs grounds maintenance services such as grass cutting, tree work, landscaping, using powered tools, equipment and hand tools;
• Conducts roadway maintenance such as but not limited to patching, sweeping and brushing;
• Provides site preparation and labour support for tradespersons;
• Constructs and supplies targets;
• Performs range maintenance;
• Installation and repair of signs and security fences.

Stream 2: Trades Helper:
EX2 - Experience providing general labour services performing three or more of the following*:
• Assisting skilled tradespersons;
• Loading/unloading/moving work materials;
• Performing grounds maintenance services i.e. grass cutting, raking, trimming trees, snow shoveling;
• Performing road maintenance;
• Using a variety of hand tools and power tools and equipment;
• Conducting routine maintenance and repair on equipment;
• Constructs and supplies targets;
• Performs range maintenance

* NOTE: one or more of the experience criteria listed may be specifically requested by a hiring manager depending on the position being staffed.

Abilities:
A1 - Ability to communicate effectively orally

For some positions the following may be required:
A2 - Ability to operate a chainsaw
A3 – Ability to properly lift up to 30 kg repetitively
A4 – Ability to identify basic components of lawn cutting equipment

Personal Suitabilities:

Certification/Training:
AQ1 - Possession of certification in Chain saw operation.
AQ2 - Possession of Mechanic Helper Certificate
AQ3 - Completion of Petroleum Mechanic helpers training
AQ4 - Possession of valid certification or completion of acceptable training in one or more of the following:
o First Aid
o CPR
o General Safety
o HAZMAT
o Confined Spaces Entry
o Fall/Arrest

Degree equivalency

Experience:
AQ5 - Experience helping the particular trade related to the position to be filled
AQ6 - Experience operating one or more of the following types of equipment: agricultural tractors, skid steers, skidders, trackless, chainsaw
AQ7 - Experience driving and backing up a trailer

Knowledge:
AQ8 - Knowledge of plant/tree care
AQ9 - Knowledge of Roads and Grounds Maintenance
AQ10 - Knowledge of basic water and wastewater treatment

ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Willingness to work overtime as required

Other conditions of employment
• Possession of a valid Class “G” driver’s license without restrictions issued by the Province of Ontario or provincial equivalent.
• Must be able to bend, to walk extensively on various types of terrain, to climb ladders, stairs and scaffolds and to work outdoors in hot and cold environments
• Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as but not limited to safety boots, hard hat, respirator, ear and eye protection in accordance with safety requirements, policy or regulations

For some positions the following may be required:
• Eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain a Departmental driver’s license (DND 404).
• Must be able to lift up to 30 kg repetitively
