Work environment

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC), as part of the criminal justice system and respecting the rule of law, contributes to public safety by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure and humane control.

The Regional Treatment Centre and Pacific Institutions are part of the CSC and are co-located, share resources and work in conjunction with each other. Together their Mission is Safer Communities Through Effective Treatment. Services are available to the entire Pacific region by providing quality assessment, treatment and programs that address the correctional, physical and mental health needs of offenders. An interdisciplinary approach is utlized to assist inmates in addressing their correctional and treatment needs.

Intent of the process

A qualified pool of candidates will be established and may be used to staff positions of various tenures including permanent and/or temporary. The qualified pool of candidates may also be used to fill various positions in the Pacific Region.

Eligibility for acceptable registration or for a license to practice as a professional occupational therapist in a province or territory of Canada. (Note: Eligibility for the above must be met upon appointment but not at point of application. Applicants should be in their final year of study or have completed the required education.)

Experience working in a correctional forensic environment.
Experience providing Occupational Therapy services to clients with psychiatric/mental health disorders.
Experience providing Occupational Therapy services to clients with cognitive deficits, which may include brain injury, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.
Experience providing Occupational Therapy services to geriatric clients.
Experience providing Occupational Therapy services to clients with physical/medical conditions & deficits.
Experience providing Occupational Therapy services to behaviourally challenged clients.
