OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
Possession of a valid unrestricted Nova Scotia Class 3 driver’s license with air brake endorsement, or provincial or territorial equivalent. (Note: Restriction 1, glasses is not applicable).
EXPERIENCE:
Recent* experience operating cargo vehicles up to and including 5 ton.
Recent* experience operating passenger vehicles up to and including 15 passengers.
*Recent is defined as having one (1) year experience within the last three years.

Information on language requirements
EDUCATION:
Possession of a secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of Province of Nova Scotia and Department of National Defence driving rules and regulations.
Knowledge of safe driving practices and procedures.
ABILITIES:
Ability to operate vehicles up to and including 5 ton cargo and 15 passenger van.
Ability to perform operator inspection and maintenance on vehicle.

Possession of WHMIS certification.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be willing and able to work shifts.
Must be willing and able to work in an environment with exposure to load noise, fumes and dust.
Must be willing and able to work overtime and call back.
Must be willing to work safely in accordance with provincial and federal guidelines.

OTHER CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain a Departmental driver’s permit (DND404).
Must possess an acceptable current (within one month) drivers' abstract.
A random and/or top down selection of candidates may be used in the determination of those to be given further consideration in the assessment process.

Reference checks may be sought.
Assessments (practical exercises and a written test) will be conducted in Halifax, NS or Greenwood, NS. Candidates will be responsible for any and all travel costs associated with and throughout this process.
Candidates will be required to provide a current and up-to-date driver’s abstract available from the Ministry of Transportation to show evidence of a satisfactory and safe driving record for the last three years. You will be notified when you are required to provide this document.
